IT reference assignments (RIVIT) – modernization of the special IT contracts
Objective
As the existing special IT contracts no longer meet current developments and expectations in IT, making the search for skilled staff more difficult, a project was started at the BMKÖS to modernize the IT reference assignments (RIVIT).
Approach
- Research of the IT labour market and capture of corresponding benchmarks along various dimensions (industry, field of activity, responsibility, etc.).
- Identification of the market-relevant IT roles for the federal administration and backing them with a portfolio of activities.
- Creation of focus areas per role and their adaptation to the IT labour market.
- Development of evaluation groups (“RIVIT levels”) and a transparent salary scheme adapted to labour-market benchmarks.
- Finalization of the remuneration structures with additional aspects such as leadership allowances.
- Rollout of the new RIVIT scheme across all ministries of the Austrian federal administration.
Result
- Successful implementation of a new contract scheme for the federal administration.
- Faster hiring of IT professionals and an increased hiring rate.
- Sustainably increased attractiveness of public employers in IT.
